SUMMARY:BRIXY at the RTL Charity Marathon 2024
DESCRIPTION:Auctioning Dietmar Brixy’s work for a good cause\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe artist Dietmar Brixy is involved in the RTL Charity Marathon 2024 this year and is making his work ‘Ascension Bamboo Bubble’ available for the major charity event. Art lovers already have the chance to bid on the work before it is presented live on TV on RTL on 21 and 22 November.\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nThe painting “Ascension Bamboo Bubble “ (2023\, oil on nettle\, Ø 140 cm\, value: €12\,500) was the centrepiece of Brixy’s solo exhibition ”The Description of the World ’ at the venerable Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana on Piazza San Marco in Venice this summer. In an exhibition that attracted over 27\,000 visitors parallel to the Biennale\, Brixy’s work was presented in inspiring company – surrounded by masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance by artists such as Titian\, Tintoretto and Veronese.\n \n \nBiblioteca Nazionale Marciana\, St Mark’s Square\, Venice \n  \nThe auction as part of the RTL Donation Marathon 2024 not only offers the opportunity to acquire an impressive work with a unique exhibition history\, but also to provide long-term support for children in need and their families. All proceeds go directly to the projects supported by ‘RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.’\, as RTL covers all administrative costs so that every euro donated is passed on in full to the aid projects.\n  \nThe artwork “Ascension Bamboo Bubble ’ by Dietmar Brixy can be auctioned for a good cause in two ways. Interested parties already have the opportunity to place a bid online via United Charity\, Europe’s largest charity auction portal\, and thus become part of this special project.\n  \nAlternatively\, the work will also be auctioned live on television as part of the RTL telethon from 21 November at 6 pm to 22 November at 6 pm. During the 24-hour\, climate-neutral live programme\, presenter Wolfram Kons will be reporting from the studio every hour\, welcoming prominent guests and providing exciting insights into the ongoing fundraising campaigns. 100% of the proceeds from the auctions will be donated to the children’s aid projects supported by ‘RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.’.\n  \n  \nBID ON THE BRIXY WORK HERE NOW\n  \n  \n  \nAbout the work donated by Brixy\n  \nThe title of the work\, ‘Ascension’\, stands for striving upwards – a symbol of hope and change. Strong\, flexible bamboo grows at the edge of the work\, symbolising strength and stability. The round shape of the picture is reminiscent of a floating bubble\, symbolising the fragility of life and the preciousness of every moment. In this way\, ‘Ascension Bamboo Bubble’ unites the idea of renewal and inner strength – the tireless pursuit of growth\, despite all challenges. It is a symbol of hope and change and reflects Brixy’s artistic vision of positive change.\n  \n  \n \n‘Ascension Bamboo Bubble’ (2023\, oil on nettle\, Ø 140 cm\, value: €12\,500)\n\n  \n  \nAbout the RTL charity marathon\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince its launch in 1996\, the RTL telethon has established itself as a central charity event on German television. Over the past 28 years\, more than 287 million euros have been raised for aid projects that benefit needy children and their families – both in Germany and worldwide. \nOrganised by the ‘RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.’ foundation\, the charity marathon collects donations\, 100% of which are passed on to carefully selected aid projects. RTL covers all administrative costs so that every euro donated goes directly to where it is needed. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nThe RTL telethon brings together people who want to help give children and their families new opportunities and prospects. It supports both national and international projects in the areas of education\, health\, protection and development. Every year\, prominent supporters\, athletes and artists take part in order to raise awareness of the various causes and attract a large audience for the aid campaigns. \n  \nThrough donations and charity auctions such as the auction of Dietmar Brixy’s artwork “Ascension Bamboo Bubble ’\, the RTL telethon offers people the opportunity to actively support a better future for disadvantaged children through financial contributions or the purchase of special works of art. \n  \n \n  \nAt a glance \nIn 2024\, the RTL telethon celebrates its 29th edition and takes place from 21 November at 6 pm to 22 November at 6 pm. The 24-hour\, climate-neutral live programme will once again be hosted by presenter Wolfram Kons\, who will invite celebrities into the studio and report live on the ongoing fundraising campaigns every hour. Well-known personalities will be available in the call centre to take donation calls and talk about their experiences during project visits. \n  \nBID ON THE BRIXY WORK HERE NOW\n

SUMMARY:BRIXY - 20 years of art in the old pumping station
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the gates of the old pumping station in Mannheim-Neckarau will once again be opened for this year’s anniversary exhibition ‘20 years of art in the pumping station’. \n  \nArt lovers are invited to take a tour of the Künstlerhaus. Compositions of current works as well as selected works from earlier creative phases of the last 20 years are presented in the interior and exterior space of the industrial monument. The exhibition is complemented by sculptures and works by guest artist Trak Wendisch\, whose works are characterised by an intensive exploration of form\, colour and space\, in cooperation with Galerie Tammen from Berlin. Painting and sculpture enter into an exciting and congenial dialogue here. \n  \nThe anniversary exhibition is particularly noteworthy as it follows a series of important national and international presentations by Dietmar Brixy. In recent months\, his works have already been shown in renowned exhibitions on Sylt\, in Berlin and Venice. An edition will be published for the exhibition ‘Brixy – The Description of the World’\, which is taking place parallel to the Biennale Arte 2024 in Venice\, and will also be presented in the anniversary exhibition at the Altes Pumpwerk. In addition\, a new Brixy catalogue\, published by the renowned Hirmer Verlag and the ‘Association for Art in Public – Kunststiftung’\, will be available at the Altes Pumpwerk. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n \n  \nAbout the old pumping station\n\n\n\nThe neo-Gothic clinker brick building was designed according to plans by Richard Perrey (1866-1937)\, a city planning director from Mannheim who was born in Szczecin\, and has a remarkable artistic design. The gable front gives the building a representative character. It is based on motifs from the North German brick Gothic style\, whereby the monumental\, austere and sober character is reminiscent of Cistercian architecture. The impression of a sacred building is further emphasised by the division into a ‘choir room’ (today’s residential building) and a ‘nave’ (today’s studio). The sewage treatment plant with two sand traps is located in the front section. The impressive clinker-vaulted sewers flow into these. The rear part is the pump house with the three centrifugal pumps of different sizes (manufacturer: Sulzer Bros.\, Ludwigshafen)\, the vacuum pumps and the electric motors. Below this is a vaulted cellar with the suction pipes. \n[…] Following the construction of a new wastewater pumping station in the immediate vicinity\, the historic building was decommissioned at the end of the 1980s. After long endeavours to find a new use for the building\, it was renovated in 2001 in line with its listed status and carefully converted into a residential unit with a studio and collection space for the Mannheim artist Dietmar Brixy. \n  \nDr. Monika Ryll \nLower Monument Protection Authority city of Mannheim \n  \n\nCreative phases & cycles by artist Dietmar Brixy\n  \n\nBrixy mostly works in cycles\, after which he titles his paintings. His works rarely have individual titles\, but are named after the respective series of works. Some series are not complete and new works are constantly being added. Although the individual cycles build on each other chronologically\, they also constantly influence each other anew. \n  \nFrom the very beginning\, the line has been a central motif in Brixy’s works. As a lifeline\, branching branches or even as a horizon. The essence of the line can be interpreted very differently depending on the group of works: as an encounter between two individuals whose paths cross\, as an image for setting out – setting off on a journey – or as the crossing of borders. These motifs are particularly pronounced in the avenues from the BEYOND series or in the perspective landscapes in HORIZON. The numerous nature motifs in his paintings have an even stronger recognition value. Intertwined branches dominate the scenes in WEINLESE\, ROOTS\, GROW\, EDEN\, DISCOVER\, SURPRISE\, TOMORROW\, ROOM\, HAPPY\, REFLECT and JOURNEY. The interplay of light and colour creates deep\, perspectival levels. Luminous areas of colour form contrasts to sculpturally modelled formations. \n  \n \nDiscover\, 2014\, Öl auf Nessel\, 140 x 180 cm \n  \n‘Brixy opens up a pictorial event that we perceive from a kind of stage; he takes us by the hand and leads us into a pictorial event blown up to the scale of a panorama. We look from left to right\, from top to bottom\, stopping briefly to pause at one point in the middle. Faced with this powerful rhythm of color\, this colorism taken from nature and its infinite phenomena\, all we can do is look on in wonder.’ \nDr. Tayfun Belgin \nDirector Osthaus Museum Hagen\, a.D.  \n  \n  \n  \n \nJourney\, 2023\, Öl auf Nessel\, 240 x 180 cm \n  \n  \nGuest artist Trak Wendisch\n  \nTrak Wendisch (actually Trakia René Wendisch) was born in Berlin on 7 August 1958. From 1977 to 1982\, he studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig under Dietrich Burger and Bernhard Heisig. He has been a freelance artist since 1982 and works as a sculptor\, painter and draughtsman. In 1985 he was a master student at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts under Gerhard Kettner. \nSince 1996\, his work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in many German cities as well as in Switzerland\, Brazil\, the Netherlands and the USA. His works can be found in numerous renowned private and public collections and museums in Germany\, Brazil\, the Netherlands\, Japan and Norway. From 1985 to 1995 he was involved in the joint project Burg Goldbeck. Trak Wendisch lives and works in Berlin. \n  \n \nTänzerin II\, 1991 Bronze\, patiniert 205 x 120 x 100 cm \n  \n  \n‘Most of his works appear extremely drastic\, often like apocalyptic swansongs to the human condition. Wendisch’s works also seem to be in the best German expressionist tradition – from the artists of the ‘Brücke’ at the beginning of the 19th century to the East German expressionism of a Heisig\, for example\, to the neo-expressionism of the ‘Neue Wilde’ in the first half of the 1980s.’ \nHans-Michael Herzog \nArt historian \n  \n  \nArtist Statement Trak Wendisch\nSome of the exhibited works were created in the 1990s and some after 2020. So in some cases there are more than thirty years in between. The sculptures were created from various types of wood in the studio in Berlin\, at Goldbeck Castle and in Brazil. As wood is not durable outdoors\, either in private gardens or in public spaces\, the idea of casting selected works in bronze was born in the early 1990s. \nThe figures you see are ‘fresh’ and newly decided insofar as I re-establish the relationship to the respective sculpture when patinating it myself\, making each cast an individual piece. As some of the silicone moulds still exist to this day and I occasionally have another sculpture made\, a considerable group of bronzes has been created\, which we can show here under wonderful conditions both outdoors and indoors. \nAs my hosts have also seen my current reliefs in exhibitions and at trade fairs and found them interesting\, we decided to present these two formally divergent positions together. \nIs there a connection? 30 years is a long time. Nevertheless\, I’ve stayed the same and my approach is the same. The starting point is always the fascination that images\, conditions\, circumstances\, actions etc. trigger\, for which I then look for an equivalent form that reflects my desire to work on the object. \nThat is the connection. Ever since my son dismantled the first PCs thirty years ago and the boards were lying around\, I was fascinated by the things. My vague understanding of the function didn’t play a role – it was the beauty of the parts that attracted me. They lay around for a long time and multiplied over several generations of development. It’s all about the colour\, the distribution of components and surfaces\, the fineness of the conductor paths on the circuit boards. At some point I just had to start working with them. \n  \n \nStatt XIII\, 2023\, Mischtechnik auf Wabenplatte \n  \n  \nWhat: \n20 years of art in the old pumping station \n  \nWhere: \nOld Pumping Station Mannheim-Neckarau\, Aufeldstraße 19\, 68199 Mannheim \n  \nWhen: \n27 September to 20 October 2024 \n  \nOpening hours: \nFriday 2pm-7pm\, Saturday and Sunday 11am-4pm\, and Thursday\, 03 October 11am-4pm. \n

The collection of antique globes and world maps as well as the will of Marco Polo\, the 700th anniversary of whose death is being celebrated this year\, provide a fascinating platform for Brixy’s works in the state rooms of the Biblioteca Marciana directly on St Mark’s Square. Just as Marco Polo once did for his readers\, Brixy wants to send visitors on a journey that explores the theme of ‘foreignness’ and the relationship between different cultures and identities. \n  \nThe exhibition is part of the exhibition project ‘At Home Abroad’\, a series of four consecutive solo exhibitions by important contemporary artists who\, in keeping with the motto of the 60th Biennale Arte ‘Foreigners Everywhere’\, artistically explore the themes of foreignness and being foreign. The French artist and sculptor Bernar Venet\, the German-Czech painter Jirí Dokoupil\, the German painter Dietmar Brixy and the Austrian artist and sculptor Erwin Wurm were selected for this international exhibition series by chief curator Dirk Geuer. \n  \nThe exhibition was supported by: \n \n  \n \nOfficial presentation of a copy of the edition to the director of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana\, St Mark’s Square\, Venice (from left to right): \n– Dirk Geuer (chief curator of the exhibition series ‘At Home Abroad’ in the Sale Monumenali of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana) \n– Dietmar Brixy \n– Dr Stefano Trovato (Director\, Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana) \n  \n  \nPlease note: \nThe edition will also be presented in the anniversary exhibition ‘20 years of art in the old pumping station’ in Mannheim. \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana\, St Mark's Square\, Venice
DESCRIPTION:Solo Exhibition in Venice\nLocated directly on the world-famous St Mark’s Square in the vibrant lagoon city of Venice\, the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana Museum presents the exhibition project ‘At Home Abroad’\, a series of four consecutive solo exhibitions by important contemporary artists who\, in keeping with the motto of the 60th Biennale Arte ‘Foreigners Everywhere’\, artistically explore the theme of foreignness and being foreign. \n  \n  \n \nSt Mark’s Square\, Venice\n  \n  \nThe French artist and sculptor Bernar Venet\, the German-Czech painter Jirí Dokoupil\, the German painter Dietmar Brixy and the Austrian artist and sculptor Erwin Wurm were selected for this international exhibition series by chief curator Dirk Geuer\, who is supported by a different curator for each exhibition. As 2024 will not only mark the 60th Biennale Arte\, but also the 700th anniversary of the death of the Venetian Marco Polo\, the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana with its collection of antique globes and maps (alongside the impressive collection of frescoes by Titian\, Tintoretto and Veronese) is a special exhibition venue that perfectly combines both events thematically: \nThe ancient globes and early maps in the collection bear witness to expeditions to as yet unknown foreign territories with the aim of discovering and mapping them. Like Marco Polo\, whose will is kept in the Biblioteca Marciana (Marciana National Library)\, the first explorers travelled on ships to discover the then unknown world and to familiarise themselves with the foreign terrain. They were the first ‘foreigners everywhere’. \n  \n  \n\n  \n  \nExhibition project “At Home Abroad”\nThe chosen title ‘At Home Abroad’ is therefore to be understood as an allusion to the end of the great voyages of discovery on Earth\, but this does not rule out a possible new beginning elsewhere – be it in the universe or as an act of creation in the mind. Furthermore\, the title also refers indirectly to the famous quote by Marco Polo: ‘I have not told half of what I have seen\, because no one would have believed me’. The part that he left out of his travelogues is to be honoured with this exhibition series and filled in with various artistic positions. \nLike a researcher who explores and investigates the outside world\, artists also explore and investigate the world\, albeit primarily the hidden one in the human soul. With the help of art\, they too map entire regions of spiritual greatness and diversity\, reveal the infinite dimensions of human imagination and make them visible to everyone through the creation of their works. As Marco Polo once did\, the artists reveal only a fraction of what their inner eye has seen and present the viewer with a small section of a still unknown\, often strange and exotic inner world. \n  \n \nThe Description of the World\, Salone Sansoviniana\, Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana\n  \n  \nThe exhibition ‘Description of the World’ by Dietmar Brixy\n  \n„The Description of the World” \nVernissage: Friday\, 23 August 2024\, at 5.00 pm \nWelcome: Dr Stefano Trovato\, Director of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana \nCurator: Dr Tayfun Belgin\, Director Osthaus Museum Hagen \nVenue: Monumental Rooms of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana\, Piazza San Marco\, 13 / a\, 30124 Venice \nThe artist Dietmar Brixy will be present. \nWe cordially invite you to attend and ask you to register by 31 July at: office@afaip.de \n  \nEntire exhibition period: 24.08. – 21.09.2024 \nPlease note that during the exhibition period\, the historic Salone Sansoviniana can only be reached via the Museo Correr! \n  \nWith the kind support of: \nMinistero della Cultura \nBiblioteca Nationale Marciana \nFondazione Musei Civici Venezia \nAssociation for Art in Public \n  \n \n  \n  \nMarco Polo’s book ‘The Description of the World’\nThe title of Marco Polo’s book ‘The Description of the World’ gives Dietmar Brixy’s exhibition its name. Like Marco Polo once did for his readers\, Brixy wants to send visitors on a journey that explores the theme of ‘foreignness’ and the relationship between different cultures and identities. \nBrixy’s oil paintings from the “Happy”\, “Reflect” and “Journey” series of work and his tondi\, the so-called “Bamboo Bubbles”\, will be on display\, giving visitors a deep insight into his artistic work since 2020. In addition\, works on paper from the “Eden” series will be exhibited in display cases\, forming a link to the paper-based collection of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana. \nThe highlight of the exhibition is a free-standing room installation in the form of an octagon\, which reaches a height of 3 metres. Dietmar Brixy was inspired by an octagon ceiling painting by the famous Renaissance artist Titian\, which is located directly above the installation. This interplay creates a timeless connection\, merging the classical elegance of the Renaissance with the expressive vitality of modern art. Visitors can walk around the entire installation and view it from all sides. \n  \nFascination for the unknown\nThe fascination for the unknown\, wanderlust and the desire to discover the world have always been central themes in the history of art. Artists have always been inspired by travelling and encounters with the diversity of foreign cultures. Dietmar Brixy is also such a traveller\, a seeker. His expeditions have taken him to various European countries\, but also to Malaysia\, Mexico\, India\, Bali\, Thailand\, the Seychelles and the USA. Over the years\, he has developed his very own approach to capturing his experiences\, adventures and perceptions in his works. \n  \n \nJourney\, 2022\, oil on canvas\, 160 x 420 cm\, Diptychon\n  \n  \nAbstract landscapes reminiscent of fictional worlds\nAbstract landscapes reminiscent of fictional worlds are central to Dietmar Brixy’s visual language. These compositions are peppered with vibrant colours that look like a kaleidoscope. They symbolise the constant striving for the unattainable and the unknown\, which prompts people to set off on journeys\, to constantly make new discoveries and to accept the challenge of being a stranger among strangers. The multi-layered structures and forms in Dietmar Brixy’s pictures immerse the viewer in a world that seems both strange and familiar. It is as if Brixy breaks through the boundaries of reality and captures the essence of travelling and discovery. \nAlmost unnoticed\, Brixy draws the viewer deeper into his compositions\, layer by layer. Like a curtain that is pulled aside\, the dynamic areas of colour reveal a view of a delicate\, shimmering centre. What for the artist represents the final level of design opens up access to the pictures for the viewer. A recurring motif in his more recent oeuvre is fig leaves\, which are applied to the canvas dipped in diluted oil paint and later pulled out of the impasto layer of colour. The artist was inspired to do this on the Canary Island of La Palma. The striking elements serve as a representational motif and combine real nature with the abstract landscape. \n  \n  \n\nThe Description of the World\, Salone Sansoviniana\, Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana\n  \n  \nTondi resemble the shape of a globe\nThe artist’s tondi are remotely reminiscent of the shape of a globe that represents the world as a whole. The dynamic compositions symbolise the growth and decay of nature\, its cycles and cycles. Like a globe showing the continents\, oceans and the course of the earth’s rotation\, Brixy’s works illustrate the eternal movement and permanent change of life\, but also the diversity of the world\, the variety of cultures and identities that flow together in a harmonious collage. It is as if the artist captures the essence of the universe and expresses it on canvas in the form of vibrant explosions of colour and natural ciphers. At the same time\, these works are closely related to the globes and world maps from the collection of the Biblioteca Marciana presented in the Vestibolo and the neighbouring rooms of the Sale Monumentali\, as well as to the circular ceiling paintings by the great Renaissance masters in the Salone Sansoviniana. \n  \n \n  \nThe Description of the World\, Salone Sansoviniana\, Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana\n  \n  \nInvitation to embark on a journey\nSimilar to the writings of Marco Polo\, the works of artist Dietmar Brixy invite the viewer to engage with the world as a place of encounter\, openness and togetherness. In a globalised world in which people are increasingly interconnected\, the concept of the ‘foreigner’ and of ‘being foreign’ is subject to constant change. There are no clear boundaries or dividing lines in Brixy’s works. Everything merges together. \nThis representation reflects the idea that we live in a time when the world has become a place of diversity and exchange and the idea of the ‘foreigner’ is visibly disappearing. Brixy’s art calls us to question prejudices and stereotypes. It reminds us that we are all part of a global community and that the foreign should no longer be perceived as threatening or hostile\, but that the encounter with the other must be understood as an opportunity to better understand ourselves. Dietmar Brixy invites the viewer to see the unity and connection in everything and to embark on a journey that lies deep within ourselves. Through his art\, he shows us that the world is a place where we can all meet and inspire each other\, regardless of our cultural or geographical differences. \n  \nAbout the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana\nFounded in 1468\, the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice is one of the largest and most important libraries in Italy. Its holdings include important collections of Greek\, Latin and Oriental manuscripts. In total\, the repository of knowledge houses over one million objects\, including incunabula\, prints\, maps and around 13\,000 manuscripts. The library’s numerous historical treasures and precious items include the will of the famous Venetian adventurer and explorer Marco Polo and two editions of Homer’s Iliad from the 11th and 12th centuries. The library also boasts magnificent ‘monumental halls’ with wall and ceiling paintings by Renaissance artists Titian\, Veronese and Tintoretto. The former study and meditation room\, where great scholars\, brilliant strategists and crowned heads once sat\, now houses exhibitions. \n  \n \nBiblioteca Nazionale Marciana\n– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –\n„The Description of the World” \nVernissage: Friday\, 23 August 2024\, at 5.00 pm \nWelcome: Dr Stefano Trovato\, Director of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana \nCurator: Dr Tayfun Belgin\, Director Osthaus Museum Hagen \nVenue: Monumental Rooms of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana\, Piazza San Marco\, 13 / a\, 30124 Venice \nThe artist Dietmar Brixy will be present. \nWe cordially invite you to attend and ask you to register by 31 July at office@afaip.de \n  \nEntire exhibition period: 24.08. – 21.09.2024 \nPlease note that during the exhibition period\, the historic Salone Sansoviniana can only be reached via the Museo Correr! \n  \nWith the kind support of: \nMinistero della Cultura \nBiblioteca Nationale Marciana \nFondazione Musei Civici Venezia \nAssociation for Art in Public

SUMMARY:"We want to help"
DESCRIPTION:“We want to help” – artist and collector help together. Donations totalling 10\,000 euros are collected at a raffle during an exhibition by painter Dietmar Brixy. \n  \n“Truth” was the name of his exhibition. And part of the truth is: “We’re doing well\, so we’re giving some of it away\,” says artist Dietmar Brixy. That’s why he has now donated once again to the “MM” campaign “We want to help” – and at the same time motivated another donor\, art collector Marie-Luise Brune\, to also give money to the “MM” campaign. \n  \n(…) “This year\, the response was greater than ever\,” says Brixy happily. Guests have even come from Alsace and Switzerland because he is receiving more and more national coverage\, says Brixy gratefully. SWR\, for example\, has just titled the renowned series “SWR Kultur” about him “Lebensreise in Farbe” (Journey through life in colour)\, which is still available in the ARD media library… \n  \nExcerpt from Mannheimer Morgen\, 15 December 2023\, author: Peter W. SUMMARY:TRUTH - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Mannheim-based artist Dietmar Brixy is opening the doors of the Old Pumping Station in Mannheim-Neckarau again this year for his “TRUTH” exhibition. From September 29 to October 22\, he invites art lovers to take a tour of his artist residence and present new compositions from his “JOURNEY” series of works as well as selected works from earlier creative phases in the interior and exterior spaces of the industrial monument. In cooperation with the Tammen Gallery from Berlin\, the exhibition is complemented by sculptures by guest artist Anna Arnskötter. \n  \n  \n“TRUTH: A reflection on truth in the works of Dietmar Brixy and Anna Arnskötter”. \nArt has always possessed the ability to confront us with profound questions and make us reflect on the meaning of our existence. In the exhibition “TRUTH” at the Old Pumping Station in Mannheim-Neckarau\, painter Dietmar Brixy and sculptor Anna Arnskötter present their latest works\, which offer a multi-faceted view of the concept of “truth”. The exhibition invites visitors to embark on an inspiring journey in which they can discover the complexity and multi-layered nature of truth in contemporary art. \n  \n  \nInspirations from a study trip \nThe current painting of Dietmar Brixy is characterized by a fascinating development\, which can be traced back to a trip from India to Thailand. This trip had a profound influence on the artist and is clearly reflected in his works. Brixy now uses an even more expressive use of color\, with colors such as turquoise and pink playing a particularly significant role. Through the intensified color nuances and the expanded palette\, the artist creates an atmosphere that involuntarily captivates the viewer. The canvases become a kind of visual diary\, reproducing the memories and impressions of his journey in abstract form. \nIndia\, a country full of cultural treasures and spiritual aspects\, opened a new world of inspiration to Brixy. The trip\, however\, was not only of aesthetic significance\, but also marked a certain borderline experience\, in which the contrasts of this country came clearly to light. In this field of tension between the contrasts\, Brixy found a situation that had a lasting influence on his perception. \n  \n  \nA further development of the series of works “Journey“ \nThe current paintings of Dietmar Brixy can be understood as a further development of his previous series of works “Journey”. Even at first glance\, his paintings promise the feeling of departure that was already present in the artist’s earlier series of works. Through the unconventional use of color and structure\, Brixy creates a maximum of emotional impact and invites us to go on a journey through his paintings. \nA characteristic feature of “Journey” is the bright colors. The compositions radiate an almost early summer brightness\, which is further enhanced by the deliberate use of white valeurs. Again and again\, these light tones are set in contrast to dark accents in order to emphasize their radiance even more clearly. Almost unnoticed\, Brixy draws the viewer deeper into the composition\, layer by layer. Like a curtain pulled aside or pushed up\, the dynamically designed color surfaces reveal a view of a delicate\, shimmering center. What represents the final level of design for the artist opens up access to the paintings for the viewer. The striking fig leaves\, dipped in diluted oil paint and then pulled from the impasto layer of paint\, serve as a representational motif\, connecting real nature with the abstract landscape. \n  \n  \n \nJourney\, 2023\, Öl auf Nessel\, 120 x 300 cm\n  \n  \nTruth in Dietmar Brixy’s paintings \nOne of the central themes in Brixy’s paintings is the meaning of truth. The artist himself emphasizes that every person has his or her own perception and truth\, since everyone sees the world with different eyes. Thus\, he opens a space for individual interpretation of his artworks. He is not concerned with conveying a particular message\, but rather with the dialogue between different perspectives and points of view. He encourages viewers to discover and share their own truth as they explore the paintings. It is not about propagating One View of the World\, but about openness to the multiple possibilities of understanding and interpretation. \nThe expressive color in Brixy’s current paintings underscores this idea of diversity. The vibrant accents of color create an unmistakable visual intensity\, inviting the viewer to embark on a journey through the nuances of truth. Each brushstroke and color composition helps to create a unique emotional experience that reflects the complexity of the human condition. By emphasizing individual truth and respectful dialogue between different perspectives\, Brixy invites viewers to find their own interpretations and discover the world in all its diversity. \nDietmar Brixy’s work reflect the search for authenticity in a world characterized by superficial appearances. His paintings reflect the tension between the visible and the hidden\, between what we perceive and what is hidden behind the surface. They challenge the viewer to seek the truth in his or her own experiences and sensations\, and to recognize that it is not always obvious. \n  \n \nJourney\, 2023\, Öl auf Nessel\, 180 x 120 cm\n  \n  \nThe truth in Anna Arnskötter’s sculptures \nIn Anna Arnskötter’s sculptures\, truth is explored in a very different way. Arnskötter creates sculptures that represent truth in its material form. Using a variety of materials and techniques\, she creates works that explore the duality of truth and fiction. Her sculptures invite the viewer to grasp the solid presence of truth while accepting its mutability. Arnskötter’s works show us that truth is not static\, but can transform depending on perspective and context. \n  \n \nKünstlerin Anna Arnskötter und Künstler Dietmar Brixy\n  \n  \nDialogue between Brixy and Arnskötter \nThe exhibition “TRUTH” allows a fascinating dialogue between the works of Dietmar Brixy and Anna Arnskötter. Although their artistic expressions are different\, they share a common search for truth and authenticity. The subtle connection between Brixy’s paintings and Arnskötter’s sculptures opens a space for reflection and invites visitors to question their own notions of truth. By presenting different perspectives on the subject\, Brixy and Arnskötter expand our understanding of truth and encourage us to look beyond the superficial veils. \n  \n  \nThe Meaning of “TRUTH” as the Exhibition Title \nThe exhibition “TRUTH” will take place from September 29 to October 22 at the Old Pumping Station in Mannheim-Neckarau. The historic building provides an inspiring setting for the presentation of Brixy and Arnskötter’s works. The title of the exhibition\, “TRUTH\,” serves as a guide for viewing the works of Brixy and Arnskötter. It invites the viewer to grapple with the question of truth and explore it in the various artistic forms of expression. The point is not to find an absolute truth\, but rather to appreciate individual perception and interpretation. “TRUTH” serves as an invitation to explore the multi-layered nature of truth and to recognize that it emerges in the connection between artwork and viewer. \n  \n  \nWhat: \nExhibition “TRUTH” by artist Dietmar Brixy. \nSpecial guest gallery Tammen\, Berlin with guest artist Anna Arnskötter – sculptures. \n  \nWhere: \nOld pumping station Mannheim-Neckarau\, Aufeldstraße 19\, 68199 Mannheim. \n  \nWhen: \nSeptember 29 – October 22\, 2023 \n  \nOpening hours: \nFriday 2-7 p.m.\, Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and by appointment. \n  \nParking: \nSufficient parking spaces are available in the parking lot of the GKM Mannheim administration building. \n

SUMMARY:Brixy in the new Boesner main catalog
DESCRIPTION:Brixy in the new boesner main catalog | boesner celebrates 40th anniversary!\n  \nFor 40 years now\, boesner\, one of the leading suppliers of professional artists’ materials\, has been all about art and\, in particular\, about the material for art. \n  \nFor some time now\, the art journal in the boesner main catalog has featured interviews with important contemporary artists. On the occasion of boesner’s 40th anniversary in 2022\, the interview is dedicated to the topic “Inspiration and Material”. \n  \n  \n  \nRead the interview with artist Dietmar Brixy here: \n  \n  \n \nArtist Dietmar Brixy\n  \n  \n\nWhat inspires you?\n\nNature is very important to me\, especially my garden\, which I planted and maintain myself many years ago. It always gives me energy and new ideas. Many of my motifs are vegetal\, the fig leaf for example\, my leitmotif\, you could say\, which symbolizes the Garden of Eden for me. Since my travels to the tropics\, such as Malaysia\, bamboo has also become a motif for me\, which of course cannot be missing in my garden in Mannheim. Often I put flowers in my studio to paint\, which are also allowed to wilt\, because that’s how life shows itself. \n  \n\nHow much is the material itself part of your inspiration?\n\nAlthough I once studied sculpture\, I eventually became a painter whose material is color. In my work\, color is also conceived and modeled in a plastic way\, so that its dynamics are a game of ideas and coincidence\, in other words\, the momentum of color can be very inspiring. \n  \n\nWhat is more routine in your work – and where does the new start for you\, the adventure or the risk?\n\nThe priming\, I would say. All my canvases are first primed in black and then in a first step painted with oil paint or splashed in a kind of dripping. This is where the actual creative part begins and is repeated several times\, because each of the up to five or six layers of paint must dry before the next step can follow. \n  \n\nDo you have a preferred material?\n\nFor the large paintings\, I exclusively use oil paint on canvas or nettle. When traveling\, on the other hand\, I switch to paper and acrylic paint because it’s handier and dries much faster. My materials certainly include things of nature\, such as the fig leaf\, which I like to use as a printing form myself. \n  \n\nMany materials are tried and tested and almost irreplaceable. Do you still like to try out new things\, and are you interested in the materials others use?\n\nNo\, not really. You have your experiences and know your colors very well. As long as nature does not create new wavelengths of light or sensitize the eye to other spectral ranges\, there are no fundamentally new colors. \n  \n\nHow do you keep it with the little workshop secrets – special mixtures\, your own formulas\, little tricks … Do you share such discoveries with others?\n\nPainters used to be half alchemists\, but today industrially produced paints can hardly be optimized. Of course\, I have acquired a certain skill or technical virtuosity over the years\, but there is really nothing mysterious about it. So I let myself film at work\, so that everyone can see how my pictures are created. \n  \n\nFriedrich Schiller could only write poetry with the smell of rotting apples in his desk drawer – what do you think is an essential part of creativity?\n\nWell that’s a legend I don’t really believe. I\, for one\, don’t take drugs\, mood enhancers\, alcohol or marijuana\, which can be quite normal for painters. No\, physical fitness is more important to me. That is\, for example\, long walks with my dogs or working in the garden\, which makes you awake and therefore creative. \n  \n\nOn the radio or from a playlist\, loud or soft in the background: special music underpins your creative process.\n\nCreative process is now really a very old-fashioned term. I myself prefer the simple word work. And music is to me what apples might once have been to Schiller. With the former pumping station\, I have created a huge and acoustically great studio where you can listen to music really loud. And my plants like that too\, I think. My favorite music is Johann Sebastian Bach and various operas or jazz rock by Keith Jarrett or Jan Garbarek. \n  \n\nWhen is a work finished?\n\nWhen I sign it. \n  \n\nWho do you show it to first and with what expectations?\n\nMy partner David. I really appreciate his honest criticism\, even if it can’t change a finished painting.

The gallery promotes young\, emerging artists with an unique signature. It is the intention to correlate them with renowned artists. Their positions should complement and stimulate each other\, whereas every artist keeps his own characteristics. \nThe gallery´s main focus follows two different guidelines:\n1. SUMMARY:journey - exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Mannheim artist Dietmar Brixy is opening the doors of the Altes Pumpwerk in Mannheim-Neckarau again this year for his exhibition “journey”. From 23 September to 16 October\, he invites art lovers on a tour of his artist’s residence and presents compositions from his new series of paintings “JOURNEY” as well as selected works from earlier creative phases in the interior and exterior spaces of the industrial monument. The exhibition is complemented by sculptures by guest artist Lothar Seruset in cooperation with the Tammen Gallery from Berlin. \n  \nJourney – the promise of new worlds\n  \nColourful\, intense\, and with a moving\, stirring dynamic\, the viewer is addressed and instinctively drawn into Dietmar Brixy’s latest art. It is the colourful invitation to joy\, to let go of thoughts\, to feel freedom. The artist Dietmar Brixy’s new series of paintings\, Journey\, instantly promises a feeling of departure. As in earlier series of works\, the artist achieves a maximum of emotion through the unusual use of colour and structure\, thus inviting us to embark on an exceptional journey through his pictorial worlds. \n\nDietmar Brixy’s works are the expression of an intensive creative process – in the course of which the artist repeatedly reworks the composition of the painting to gradually approach the creative whole. Brixy begins with a black primed support\, usually nettle or canvas\, and\, layer by layer\, superimposes it with layers of colour conceived in tension and dynamism. What in the final result seems so natural and playful to the viewer is the powerful alternation of action and reaction\, of applying colour and reducing it in the course of the creative process. For the artist\, this is a continuous opening and closing of the pictorial surface in search of space and of new landscapes. In truth\, however\, this is not realistically tangible; it is rather Dietmar Brixy’s desire to capture the idea and the feeling of a potential landscape in the language of colours. The interplay of shapes\, colours and contours creates associations with diverse forms of vegetation\, thus allowing all viewers to immerse themselves in their own respective world of experience and sensation. \n\n  \n \nJourney\, 2022\, Öl auf Nessel\, 180 x 140 cm\n  \nA striking feature of Journey are the extraordinarily bright colours: radiant yellow\, warm orange\, delicate green. The compositions reveal an almost early summer brightness\, partly accentuated by the use of white as a valeur. Time and again\, these bright colours contrast with dark greens and blues as if to intensify their radiance. Almost unconsciously\, Dietmar Brixy lets the viewer dive deeper into the composition\, level by level. Like a curtain pulled aside and upwards\, the areas of colour created in dynamic movements reveal a delicate\, shimmering centre. The viewer’s approach to the works is enabled by Brixy’s final level of aesthetic configuration. The striking fig leaves\, dipped in diluted oil paint and then pulled out of the pastose paint\, which dissolve the powerful movements like counterparts\, offer the bridge between real nature and abstract landscape as a representational motif. Through the artist’s varied handling of the material\, vast territories\, deep ravines or broken layers of earth are conjured up. In this series\, Brixy once again achieves the impression of three-dimensionality. Deep blue surfaces are painted sharply upwards\, pressing very close to the foreground of the picture. Superimposed horizontal stripes create the impression of alternating landscape levels as a transition into the depths of space – until finally\, in the background of the picture\, the sun-drenched\, almost monochrome areas extend far into the supposed horizon. Each of these zones has its own character – it is applied over a wide area\, sprayed\, puttied. Dietmar Brixy works with his hands\, spreading transitions\, letting colour emerge from deeper layers or disappear under new structures. His palpable joy in the creative process is not only visible in many fragments\, such as the pastose application of paint\, but is inevitably transferred to the viewer. If one picks out individual details of a work\, it becomes clear just how many images are ‘hidden’ in the picture. Subterranean lava flows can be fathomed\, a deep dark sea surges over the moving seabed or hazy water mists rise up into the pale sky. Journey is a voyage through the world of colours\, revealing the special knowledge of their haptics and the resulting associations. \n  \n \nJourney\, 2022\, Öl auf Nessel\, 160 x 210 cm\n  \nThe choice of colour for this series unconsciously creates a valency that was already used centuries ago in painting for semantic emphasis. In many late medieval works\, for example\, Mary’s blue cloak is in tension with gold-coloured backgrounds; in the baroque period\, a dark hair band imbues even more lustre to a girl’s delicate complexion; at the end of the 19th century\, ripe wheat fields stand out against the deep blue sky; or in the paintings of classical modernism\, the houses of Provence appear even warmer and friendlier against the cool blue of the sea. In Brixy’s works\, too\, there is a close connection between the dialogue of colour\, the contrast between light and dark and the value of the light-flooded centre. It appears as a positive place towards which the eye is involuntarily drawn and with which the viewer associates a sense of openness and lightness. \n  \nIn this latest series\, the title is to be taken literally: this is where a journey can begin. It starts with a first overall impression providing personal images and emotions\, letting us travel further and inviting us to change perspectives\, to look at things literally from a different point of view. This opens up new horizons\, new destinations. It is a journey through the sphere of colours\, through the world of the artist Dietmar Brixy as well as through our own personal worlds of memories and emotions with the aim of discovering something new. \n  \nby Simone Maria Dietz M.A.\, art historian \n  \n  \n  \nSee the creation of “JOURNEY\, 2022\, oil on canvas\, 160 x 420 cm (Diptychon)” by artist Dietmar Brixy from his current series of works JOURNEY.\n  \n\n  \n\n\n  \nShort biography Lothar Seruset\n  \nBorn in Ulm in 1956\, 1988 appointed master student at the Berlin University of the Arts with Prof. J.
