DESCRIPTION:Das Triptychon “Gefunden” (je 240 x 120 cm\, Öl auf Nessel) ziert seit Juli 2008 das Trauzimmer im alten Rathaus Mannheim am Marktplatz. Als “Allegorie des menschlichen Seins” beschreibt Dr. Martin Stather (Leiter Mannheimer Kunstverein)\, Brixys dreigeteiltes Gemälde. \n“Brixy läßt in der rechten und linken Tafel schemenhaft jeweils eine menschliche Figur auftreten\, schwebend\, eingebunden in den Malgrund\, aus dem sie nur leicht hervortritt\, der außerdem noch Geckos\, Vögel\, Schnecken und Schmetterlinge erkennen läßt\, Symbole für Stärke\, Freiheit\, Leben und einen Kreislauf des Lebens in der Natur\, der ewig ist. (…) In der Mitte finden die beiden Menschen zusammen\, teilen nun den Sog und die Fährnisse des Lebens\, geben sich gegenseitig Schutz\, Vertrauen und Zuneigung. (…) In lichten Farben malt Brixy dieses Zusammentreffen\, es ist von heiterer Leichtigkeit und einer großen Freude über den Neubeginn geprägt. DESCRIPTION:(…) The second meaning of the title “GROW” hinted at briefly earlier on and referring to planting and cultivating finds its expression in the splendid flower paintings which have such strange names as “Hello Darkness”\, “Champagne Elegance” or “Skating Party”. These names do not spring from the artist’s linguistic imagination\, but they designate specific types of irises which Brixy has planted in his splendid garden and which were promoted to pictorial motives last year. These iris flowers are staged as enormous protagonists in his paintings\, partly painted in luxuriously magnificent colours\, partly in surprisingly reticent colour schemes. The realistic appearance of the plant and sometimes also photographs of its various stages of growth may stimulate the pictures\, but the naturalistic model is finally transcended and translated into pure painting.  \n The complementary contrast of greenish yellow and deep violet colours creates the tension in the series of paintings called “Hello Darkness”. This contrast of colours being immensely effective in itself is intensified by the sprinkles of pink and light violet. SUMMARY:A painter tracing life
DESCRIPTION:(…) He has never been one of those people who without much thought dip their hands into colour pots and not caring what the result might be wipe their dripping fingers on the canvas. But neither does he care for the other extreme of constant calculation and fussy control. For Dietmar Brixy consideration and spontaneity are no opposites. It is not surprising that before and while he is painting a process takes place which he can only partially understand rationally: There is earnest questioning and careful\, yet urgent probing into the energy behind objects and living things to find out which forces shape the visible world. \n(…) These pictures betray the gestures of plants which remain present in their bodies. Try to imagine it: the bent lines of the bamboo stems reaching towards the infinite can only be controlled by choosing a part only – the plant as a model of the whole cosmos. The tentative horizontal and vertical lines of the wooden branches reproduced in Brixy’s style of painting and explored with his hands and arms\, loops which have fascinated him so much that he reduced some of the pictures to these lines only. Es scheint\, als haben die Bamusrohre mal kurz im Bild vorbeischauen wollen und als wollten sie sich in ihrer gebogenen Form gleich woanders hinbewegen. \nDas äußere runde Format und die innere Darstellung der Kreissegmente gehen eine harmonische Verbindung ein aufgrund ihrer formalen Entsprechung. DESCRIPTION:(…) Der Bambus wird zum Sinnbild. Deutlich treten die einzelnen Stufen… Wachstumsstufen hervor. Die vormals Pflanze wird durch ihre Darstellung gleichsam ihrer konkreten Bildhaftigkeit enthoben und gewinnt eine darüber hinausgehende symbolische Bedeutung\, vielleicht die der Lebenslinie oder der Lebensleiter\, bei der die sogenannten Wachstumsknoten für Wachstumsstufen menschlicher Entwicklungen stehen(…). \nEin Dialog ist entstanden zwischen dem äußerlich wahrnehmbaren “Detail” aus der Natur und dem innerlich wahrnehmbaren natürlichen Wachstum eines jeden einzelnen von uns. SUMMARY:Brixy’s Cosmos
DESCRIPTION:(…) At first sight the sheer size of this painting is overwhelming: Four canvasses are put together to form one large picture of 9.60 meters length and 1.80 meters height. The painting self-confidently dominates the entrance wall to the large area used for staff get-togethers and events. \nA voluminous diagonal in red and orange cuts through the painting from bottom left to top right\, its beginning and end – if there is one at all – being outside the picture. An orange and brown spiral winds around it loosely spaced irregularly. The rest of the pictorial space is dominated by an apparently homogeneous deep blue colour which also seems to spread endlessly in all directions and is composed of many different hues of blue and green as well as white and black. Often put lavishly on the canvas with the hands colour bands stretch horizontally across the surface in soft waves and accompany the eye feeling its way across a work of art ten meters long. DESCRIPTION:(…) Am treffendsten läßt sich Brixys Malerei wohl als eine Malerei der Stimmungen\, der Emotionen beschreiben; vom kühlen dominierenden Blau/Weiß über ein warmes Gelb/Orange hin zu brennenden Rottönen bietet seine Palette die gesamte Bandbreite menschlicher Empfindungen im Ausdruck der Farbe. So bieten sich dem Auge des Betrachters Topografien der Emotion\, gleichzeitig aber auch Vignetten zum Wein\, zur Arbeit des Wein-Machens und zum Genuß des Weintrinkens\, den wir nicht vergessen wollen. \nDen Sensationen auf der Zunge entsprechen die des Auges – vom ersten Schlürfen bis zum langanhaltenden Abgang. Brixys Arbeiten sind von Licht und Schatten gleichermaßen bestimmt\, kompakte und flüchtige Form durchdringen einander\, Schweres und Leichtes wechseln ab. DESCRIPTION:“(…) Looking at the paintings more closely we first of all notice the many layers of colour which form the pictures as such\, put on with brush\, hand or spatula and then partly scratched off again. At this level you can read the paintings as topographical landscapes disclosing their structure and inner coherence. There are lines\, spaces and fluid movements; the colours have flooded the canvas like lava. \nOf course\, we can perceive concrete shapes\, recognise vines and grapes\, and yet these are ephemeral\, can hardly be grasped as if one looked at an impenetrable thicket or network without being able to tell which is the foreground and which the background. But this is not all: In some way colour and form emancipate themselves on the canvas and almost seem to lead their own lives. In his paintings Brixy achieves a degree of abstraction which could also survive easily without any hints at figurative reference.  \n Speaking of figure(s): Our painter would not be Brixy unless he hid a figure in the painting here and there. It has always been the aim of his style of painting to capture vitality\, the very flow of life\, and therefore man and nature form an imperative and natural whole in his pictures.
