Marco Polo’s famous work \u2018The Wonders of the World\u2019 gives the exhibition its name. The collection of antique globes and world maps as well as the will of Marco Polo, the 700th anniversary of whose death is being celebrated this year, provide a fascinating platform for Brixy’s works in the state rooms of the Biblioteca Marciana directly on St Mark’s Square. Just as Marco Polo once did for his readers, Brixy wants to send visitors on a journey that explores the theme of \u2018foreignness\u2019 and the relationship between different cultures and identities.<\/p>\n

The exhibition is part of the exhibition project \u2018At Home Abroad\u2019, a series of four consecutive solo exhibitions by important contemporary artists who, in keeping with the motto of the 60th Biennale Arte \u2018Foreigners Everywhere\u2019, artistically explore the themes of foreignness and being foreign. The French artist and sculptor Bernar Venet, the German-Czech painter Jir\u00ed Dokoupil, the German painter Dietmar Brixy and the Austrian artist and sculptor Erwin Wurm were selected for this international exhibition series by chief curator Dirk Geuer.<\/p>\n
