Dietmar Brixy at art karlsruhe 2026
Represented by Galerie Tammen, Berlin
Hall 1 · Booth H1/A26
At art karlsruhe 2026, Dietmar Brixy presents new works from his current series WANDERLUST. The presentation brings together large-scale key works with selected smaller and mid-sized paintings, offering a focused insight into the artist’s most recent phase of work.
WANDERLUST – Landscape as an Open Field of Experience
The series WANDERLUST consistently rethinks the classical motif of landscape. Its point of departure lies in topographical suggestions that gradually detach themselves from concrete references during the painting process. Horizon lines, layered fields of color, and tectonic-like formations structure the pictorial space without fixing it.
In Brixy’s work, landscape is not understood as a place but as a state: a condition of transition, movement, and perception. Color becomes the carrier of space, time, and depth. The viewer’s gaze follows no predetermined narrative but moves tentatively through open pictorial spaces in which order and dissolution coexist.

Monumental Expanse
At the center of the presentation stands the large-scale painting
WANDERLUST, 2025 · Oil on linen · 200 × 450 cm.
Its extreme horizontal format unfolds a nearly panoramic pictorial architecture. Broad fields of color open up the image space, while condensed zones generate tension, rhythm, and depth. Layers, overlays, and deliberate ruptures give rise to a landscape that radiates calm while remaining in constant motion. The work condenses the central questions of the series and functions as the visual gravitational core of the booth.

Variations Within the Series
The monumental work is complemented by selected paintings in smaller and medium formats. These open up alternative perspectives within WANDERLUST—more condensed, more intimate, and at times more fragmentary.
Together, they form a multifaceted ensemble that reveals the breadth of Brixy’s current painterly research and allows for diverse approaches within the series.
