Dietmar Brixy at POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair 2026
Galerie Tammen presents recent works from the WANDERLUST series
From 10 to 13 September 2026, Dietmar Brixy will be represented by Galerie Tammen at POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair. The thirteenth edition of the international art fair will take place in Hangars 5 and 6 of the former Tempelhof Airport. As the official art fair of Berlin Art Week, POSITIONS brings together 96 galleries from 20 countries, offering a concentrated view of significant positions in modern and contemporary art.
The vast, light-filled hangars of the former airport provide far more than an extraordinary architectural setting. Across more than 10,000 square metres, international galleries, artists, collectors and art enthusiasts come together. Special exhibitions, talks and an extensive accompanying programme make POSITIONS one of the central meeting points of Berlin’s autumn art season.
Galerie Tammen will present selected works by Dietmar Brixy from his current series WANDERLUST, continuing the longstanding collaboration between the artist and the Berlin gallery.

WANDERLUST as a state of inner movement
In WANDERLUST, Dietmar Brixy takes up the idea of landscape without tying it to any specific place. His paintings do not tell of a particular destination. Instead, they explore the longing for departure, transformation and a sense of inner expansiveness.
Horizons, waterways, organic forms and topographical structures seem to emerge for a moment before dissolving once again into the movement of colour. The familiar merges with the undefined, creating pictorial spaces suspended between memory and imagination, the experience of nature and an inner landscape.
Brixy’s painting always remains direct and physical. Oil paint is applied, shifted, compressed, opened up and layered once more. Traces of hands, tools and movement remain visible and become part of the image itself. Through this intensive process, a form of painting emerges that combines a powerful material presence with a remarkable sense of spatial openness.
For Brixy, WANDERLUST is therefore not an escape from reality. The series understands the act of setting out as an inner attitude: a willingness to leave the familiar behind, to allow new perspectives to emerge and to embrace the unknown. Viewers do not simply stand before these landscapes. They become part of a movement whose direction remains open.

Between Berlin and Venice
Brixy’s presentation at POSITIONS Berlin comes at a particularly significant moment in his 2026 exhibition programme. Almost simultaneously, his exhibition WANDERLUST will open at Palazzo Bembo in Venice. While Galerie Tammen presents his work as part of Berlin Art Week, the series will be explored in greater depth through an extensive exhibition in Venice.
In September, Brixy’s work will therefore be present in two places that speak, in very different ways, of movement, history and encounter: the monumental architecture of the former Tempelhof Airport and Palazzo Bembo on Venice’s Grand Canal.
