WORKS 2010

Dietmar Brixy

Since occupying the Altes Pumpwerk Neckarau, Brixy has been overflowing with ideas. His sense of creativity has redoubled. Brixy’s pictorial world, his imagery, is ripe and juicy. It is apt, then, that this year’s shows bear the title ‘Ripe & Juicy’, as Brixy creates a stir with two exhibitions that put sun-drenched plants centre stage in his visual universe: figs and citrus leaves. The shows open at the Kunstverein Worms and in the orangery of Schwetzingen Palace. And: After seven years, it’s time for an extensive retrospective. Works from the various series created in the neo-Gothic industrial building are combined with older works from when he still had his studio in Mannheim’s urban centre. The selection goes on show, titled simply ‘Seven’.

» “Ripe and juicy” describes more than just the summer fruits that Brixy chose as the figurative theme of his likewise ripe and juicy painting. Brixy’s primary theme is the paint itself, which showcases itself in almost illicitly beautiful and sensual painting. «
