Sensual-expressive compositions form the brilliant prelude for the new series of works “Horizon”, with which Dietmar Brixy starts the year 2018. Again and again, the oil paintings reveal the strength, dynamism and passion of their protracted creation. Brixy paints a very haptic, gestural painting, layers and pushes volumes of paint with brushes, spatulas and hands over the surfaces – they whirl and roar over the ground, wind themselves into knotty branch structures and culminate in almost fragile fig leaves in front of the expanse of the horizon. In Brixy’s work he can be understood as a metaphor, as a view of the essence of things beyond the visible.
