The works created by Dietmar Brixy in 2024 can be seen as a further development of his ‘Journey’ series. Even at first glance, these works convey a sense of departure, which already played a central role in the artist’s earlier creative phases. Brixy uses colour and texture to gradually lead the viewer into the depths of his pictorial worlds.

 

A central element of ‘Journey’ is the radiant colour scheme. The luminous compositions exude a lightness that is made even more intense by the use of light shades. These areas are repeatedly highlighted by darker colour accents to emphasise the contrast and luminosity. Layer by layer, Brixy draws the viewer deeper into the painting. Dynamically designed areas of colour open up like curtains to reveal a shimmering centre hidden within the paintings. The striking fig leaves, worked with diluted oil paint and pulled out of the dense layer of colour, create a connection between the natural world and the abstract representation.
