Auctioning Dietmar Brixy's work for a good cause

The artist Dietmar Brixy is involved in the RTL Charity Marathon 2024 this year and is making his work ‘Ascension Bamboo Bubble’ available for the major charity event. Art lovers already have the chance to bid on the work before it is presented live on TV on RTL on 21 and 22 November.

The painting "Ascension Bamboo Bubble “ (2023, oil on nettle, Ø 140 cm, value: €12,500) was the centrepiece of Brixy's solo exhibition ”The Description of the World ’ at the venerable Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana on Piazza San Marco in Venice this summer. In an exhibition that attracted over 27,000 visitors parallel to the Biennale, Brixy's work was presented in inspiring company - surrounded by masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance by artists such as Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese.

The auction as part of the RTL Donation Marathon 2024 not only offers the opportunity to acquire an impressive work with a unique exhibition history, but also to provide long-term support for children in need and their families. All proceeds go directly to the projects supported by ‘RTL - Wir helfen Kindern e.V.’, as RTL covers all administrative costs so that every euro donated is passed on in full to the aid projects.

The artwork "Ascension Bamboo Bubble ’ by Dietmar Brixy can be auctioned for a good cause in two ways. Interested parties already have the opportunity to place a bid online via United Charity, Europe's largest charity auction portal, and thus become part of this special project.

Alternatively, the work will also be auctioned live on television as part of the RTL telethon from 21 November at 6 pm to 22 November at 6 pm. During the 24-hour, climate-neutral live programme, presenter Wolfram Kons will be reporting from the studio every hour, welcoming prominent guests and providing exciting insights into the ongoing fundraising campaigns. 100% of the proceeds from the auctions will be donated to the children's aid projects supported by ‘RTL - Wir helfen Kindern e.V.’.

The title of the work, ‘Ascension’, stands for striving upwards - a symbol of hope and change. Strong, flexible bamboo grows at the edge of the work, symbolising strength and stability. The round shape of the picture is reminiscent of a floating bubble, symbolising the fragility of life and the preciousness of every moment. In this way, ‘Ascension Bamboo Bubble’ unites the idea of renewal and inner strength - the tireless pursuit of growth, despite all challenges. It is a symbol of hope and change and reflects Brixy's artistic vision of positive change.

About the RTL charity marathon

Since its launch in 1996, the RTL telethon has established itself as a central charity event on German television. Over the past 28 years, more than 287 million euros have been raised for aid projects that benefit needy children and their families - both in Germany and worldwide.

Organised by the ‘RTL - Wir helfen Kindern e.V.’ foundation, the charity marathon collects donations, 100% of which are passed on to carefully selected aid projects. RTL covers all administrative costs so that every euro donated goes directly to where it is needed.

The RTL telethon brings together people who want to help give children and their families new opportunities and prospects. It supports both national and international projects in the areas of education, health, protection and development. Every year, prominent supporters, athletes and artists take part in order to raise awareness of the various causes and attract a large audience for the aid campaigns.

Through donations and charity auctions such as the auction of Dietmar Brixy's artwork "Ascension Bamboo Bubble ’, the RTL telethon offers people the opportunity to actively support a better future for disadvantaged children through financial contributions or the purchase of special works of art.

In 2024, the RTL telethon celebrates its 29th edition and takes place from 21 November at 6 pm to 22 November at 6 pm. The 24-hour, climate-neutral live programme will once again be hosted by presenter Wolfram Kons, who will invite celebrities into the studio and report live on the ongoing fundraising campaigns every hour. Well-known personalities will be available in the call centre to take donation calls and talk about their experiences during project visits.
