WORKS 2020

Dietmar Brixy

What is happiness? How do we find it? What does it look like? And are we allowed to be happy at all during this time? “Yes!” says Brixy firmly. “Happiness is not omnipresent and infinite, but fragile. Happiness needs a reference, a counterpoint: the sorrow, the grief, the gloom,” he muses. “How else should we perceive it?”

The title of the series of works HAPPY is a conscious play on expectations:

Brixy is not concerned with a concrete representation of happiness. Rather, the viewer is challenged to recognise happiness for himself as a subjective perception of shapes and colours, and to come a little closer to his own place of longing.
